From our Children’s Minister, Beth Wood:
During the season of Lent, which runs from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, there is a tradition of either giving up something (such as sweets) or taking on something new (such as a daily quiet time). The process of doing something like this for Lent gives us the opportunity to be reminded of Jesus’ suffering on the cross. Each time we find ourselves reaching for something we have given up, such as chocolate, we are, in a small way, reminded of what Jesus gave up for us. I have found the practice of giving up something or taking on something new during Lent to be very meaningful.
I think one neat way to celebrate Lent would be to make a commitment to attend Sunday School and worship every Sunday in Lent. The process of coming to church every Sunday is a beautiful pattern to life. We have such amazing Sunday School teachers, so trust me, you will be blessed by faithful attendance at Sunday School and worship. I am sure it would greatly enrich your experience of Jesus’ sacrifice and love this Easter.
