Salvation

The most important decision you will ever make in your life, is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior of your life.  The Bible tell us that all of us fall short of God’s Holiness.  But God in His goodness made it possible for us to be forgiven of our sins.  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”  (John 3:16).

This gift is available to all, but not all will receive it.  God in His love gave us the ability to choose what we will do with our lives.  To accept Christ as our Lord and to receive the gift of God’s grace and forgiveness of sins, is to inherit eternal life in heaven.  If we choose to reject the work of Christ and the forgiveness of our sins, we will inherit eternal punishment in hell.   The Bible tells us how you can accept this gift of salvation and assurance of eternal life from God and start a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

1. First of all you must recognize, admit, and repent of your sins.  Romans 3:23 says  “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  Once we recognize that we sin, we must repent of our sins.  Jesus said in Luke 13:3 that “..unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”   Repenting of our sins, means that we turn away from our sinful desires to please ourself and turn toward Jesus and obey his commandments in our lives.

2.  You must also acknowledge that Jesus Christ is God’s provision for the forgivness of sin.  The Bible tells us that the only way we can be forgiven of our sins, and have a right standing with God is to put our faith in Jesus Christ. There is nothing that we can do to earn salvation, which means that no amount of “good works” will get us into heaven.  Ephesians 2:8-9 says  “For by grace you have been saved through faith, And this is not your own doing: it is a gift of God, not a result of works so that no one may boast.”   God sent us His perfect Son Jesus Christ to die on a cross, therefore taking on the punishement we deserved for our sins.  Romans 5:6 says   “For while we were still weak, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.”   Jesus himself said in John 14:6  “I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me.”

3. We must submit our lives to Jesus Chirst and confess Him as Lord of our lives.   Romans 10:9 says “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

If you are unsure if you died right now you would spend eternity in heaven, then in your heart you can pray a simple prayer and ask Jesus to become Lord of your life.  Remember the prayer is not what saves you, rather it is the decision that you have made in your heart.  If you want forgiveness of sin and you are ready to confess Jesus as Lord of your life, then pray this prayer in your heart.

“Dear God, I know I am a sinner.  I believe that you
sent your Son Jesus Christ to die as a sacrifice for
my sins.  I believe that three days later, He arose
from the grave,  winning the victory over death and sin.
Forgive me of the sins that I have committed against you.
I will turn away from living for myself and this world
and will turn my life toward living for you.  Even
though there are things I do not understand,
I am putting my faith in Jesus as Lord of my life.
Thank you God for this wonderful gift.  Amen.”

If you prayed that prayer and meant it in your heart then, your soul has just passed from death, into life.  Jesus commands us to make our decision public, through baptism.  New believers need to get in contact with a Bible teaching church, in which they can learn more about Jesus and His will for our lives.  If you have any questions about anything on this page, please contact a Christian family member or friend or contact us here at MBC.
